9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Join young adult literature enthusiasts in a day of lively discussion to choose the SCKLS first Mock Michael L. Printz Award.   The Michael L. Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.  It is named for a Topeka, Kansas school librarian who was a long-time active member of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA).  He had a passion for books and reading. Finding the right book for the right student at the right time was not just a slogan to Mike-he lived it. He also appreciated the authors who wrote books for young adults and demonstrated this by initiating an author-in-residence program at his high school.   The award is sponsored by Booklist, a publication of the American Library Association.

Young Adult titles from 2010 are eligible.  For further eligibility requirements go to:  http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/yalsa/booklistsawards/printzaward/Printz.cfm.

The suggested list will be on the SCKLS website, with titles added periodically.  Help build the Recommended List.  Remember the nominated book must have a copyright of 2010.  Submit your Printz choices, which reflect distinguished text.  using the online form.   It is not necessary to read all of the titles, but for discussion, it is best to have read as many as possible.  To begin the reading and discussion the following titles may be under consideration for the Mock Printz Award.
